Though the iPhone 4S is available at four U.S. wireless carriers – AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and C Spire, all of them offer the phone with a two-year contract. However if you don’t want to be tied down by any contract, you can now grab an unlocked version of iPhone 4S from Apple’s official U.S. website.
Since the unlocked version does not come with any contract, customers will have to pay the full price – $649 for 16GB, $749 for 32GB and $849 for 64GB unlocked version of the phone.
“The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint,” Apple said.
iPhone 4S sports a 3.5-inch retina display with 960 X 640 resolution and runs on Apple iOS 5. It is powered by a Dual-core Apple A5 processor and features a 8-megapixel rear auto-focus camera with LED flash and 1080p HD video recording.
The other features include a front VGA camera for video calling, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Digital Compass, Proximity sensor, Apple TV support and Assisted GPS.
A recent analyst report reported that the device sold out within 10 minutes after Apple made it available for pre-order in Hong Kong. Let’s see if it will be able to achieve the same feat. in the U.S.
